New England’s offense just got a little bit better today …
A few hours ago, word came out that 36 year old pro bowl wide receiver Reggie Wayne will play one more season with … the New England Patriots. Yes, I know, it does sound weird.
Wayne spent fourteen NFL seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, and he even won a Super Bowl with the Colts as well. Wayne’s been fortunate to have quarterback talent every season he’s played, and this year will be no different. From 2001-2011, Wayne caught passes from Peyton Manning , and after that, he played with Andrew Luck , and now he’ll be working with Tom Brady . Wayne coming to New England is good news for both the Patriots orginization, and Reggie Wayne.
By signing Wayne, the Patriots offense gets a whole lot better. Along with Wayne, the main receiving core looks something like this :
- Julian Edelman
- Brandon LaFell
- Danny Amendola
- Josh Boyce
- Aaron Dobson
Fantasy Wise : In today’s age, many NFL fans are now playing Fantasy Football. It’s become immensely popular in the last five years, and there’s a very good chance that you’ve either already played in a league, are currently playing in one, or will sometime play in one in the future! So anytime some sort of news breaks, I’ll be sure to include how that player, and others are involved with the fantasy world. Reggie Wayne going to New England shouldn’t really affect you in any way. If you decide to draft Brady, I’d expect his stats to get a little better, now that he has another, more experienced weapon on his side. As for Wayne, well he’s surely going to get his share of targets, but not as many targets as players like say a Jordan Matthews in Philadelphia, or Allen Robinson in Jacksonville would for example, both who have the capabilities to be possible WR2s, or WR3s in a standard fantasy league. While Wayne on the other hand is more like a WR4 or even WR5… and as for others in New England, I still have Rob Gronkowski as the number one Tight End this year, and as a top 10 overall player. I also still like both Julian Edelman, and Brandon LaFell when they’re healthy, but I wouldn’t really jump on them in any draft. Bottom Line : Don’t spend a draft pick on Reggie Wayne this year.
Wayne in New England seems like a good fit on paper, but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how he works with the offense. It’s just another thing to look out for with the New England Patriots this season.
