The Memphis Grizzlies are in a deep hole with Chandler Parsons, owing the forward $49.2M guaranteed over the next seasons. As per Michael Scotto of The Athletic, the Grizzlies are looking to package Parsons along with the 4th overall draft pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. –
The Memphis Grizzlies have gauged the trade market on a package of Chandler Parsons and the No. 4 overall pick, league sources told The Athletic.
The more logical and ideal situation would be for the Grizzlies to get a lower tier lottery pick while acquiring an expiring contract. If they can do the aforementioned while also acquiring a young talent, they would get more than expected.
A team that should come up in some trade rumors as the draft nears is the Denver Nuggets. The Nuggets hold the 14th overall pick but have some expiring contracts and the young assets to make a trade with most teams in the league. It is well-known around the league that the Nuggets are interested in upgrading at the Small Forward position. Although Chandler is a capable starter and defender, the Nuggets could use more help scoring on the wing.
Chandler Parsons wouldn’t be a long-term (or even short-term) option for the Nuggets on the wing but the 4th overall pick makes all the sense for a young team needing an upgrade at the wing. With players like Michael Porter Jr, Miles Bridges, Mikal Bridges and Kevin Knox likely going in the lottery, the Nuggets should do all they can to assure themselves a chance to snag one of them. Dangling the 14th pick along with Kenneth Faried’s expiring contract could be a conversation starter and an interesting option for both teams.
