With every year in the NFL Draft, we see some semblance of drama. Whether it is the free falls of Jimmy Clausen and Aaron Rodgers or Laremy Tunsil smoking videos, we are bound to see something interesting each year. So I have decided to make some “bold” predictions that could create plenty of conversation during and after the first round.
Josh Allen Goes Number 1
Perhaps the most controversial prospect is Wyoming’s Josh Allen. Most people, myself included, are enamored by his physical talents and think he is a really good prospect. Others think he is like JaMarcus Russell, just a physical freak with a bad completion percentage. With the way that the Cleveland Browns front office thinks, I see them going with the prospect with the highest ceiling. Allen could end up being a special quarterback with the weapons Cleveland has collected this off-season. He has never played with players like Josh Gordon and Jarvis Landry, and could really excel in that situation.
Saquon Barkley Falls Out of The Top 5
I am very bullish on Saquon Barkley. I even wrote about why he should/could be the number 1 pick in the draft. However, the more and more I look at this draft, the more I believe he won’t even be a top 5 pick. There are multiple other running backs that can be good starters in this league. Guys like Derrius Guice and Rashaad Penny may not be the same athlete that Barkley is, but teams can fill other holes early in the draft and try to take these guys later on, which is the better strategy for teams like the Giants and the Colts that have many needs.
Patriots Draft Lamar Jackson
Bill Belichick is going to do it again. He is going to get his replacement for Tom Brady (again) now that he has two first round picks to work with. Whether he has to trade up or Jackson falls to them, Lamar Jackson is looking like the future of the New England Patriots.
NFL Record 7 Quarterbacks Drafted in the First Round
In 1983, 6 quarterbacks were taken in the first round of the NFL draft, a record that has yet to be broken. Until this year. Quarterback is a really hard position to fill, and this class has plenty of intriguing prospects. It is entirely possible that the Browns, Giants, Jets, Dolphins, Patriots, Broncos, Bills, and maybe even the Cardinals, could be picking quarterbacks, and with the depth in this class, we could see up to 8 taken in the first 32 picks.
Here are my bold predictions for April 26th. With the slow moving football news in the last couple of weeks, the draft will offer the drama that will be needed to hold us over for training camp come August. What are some of your predictions for the draft?
