While we are just over one month away until the start of the NBA season, there is still plenty of time to speculate on several things. Those speculations include ranking the best players in the league at each position.
Let’s get down to business:
Top 5 Point Guards in the NBA:
1.) Stephen Curry
Steph Curry didn’t average a triple-double, but he is still the best point guard the NBA. Steph averaged 25 points a game while playing second fiddle to one of the best scorers ever in Kevin Durant. He shoots for great percentages, and is an underrated facilitator. Curry’s shooting presence also makes the defense have to shade towards him, and gives guys like Klay Thompson a chance to shine.
Russell Westbrook’s numbers speak for him: Last year, Westbrook became just the second player to EVER average a triple-double. That’s just flat out incredible. Westbrook is the most explosive player in the game, and can single handily carry a team on his back. Hopefully the addition of Paul George takes some heat off him, but Westbrook is the heart and soul of the Thunder, and they will go as far as he can take them.
3.) John Wall
John Wall beats out Chris Paul for the 3 spot just narrowly. Wall wins it because of his ability to be such a game changer on both ends of the floor. He is an elite scorer (23 points/game) and incredible facilitator (10 assists/game) while also being a lock down defender (2 steals/game). If Wall is able to develop a better shot from distance, he will be one of the scariest all-around guards in the NBA.
4.) Chris Paul
The floor general that is Chris Paul can fall no lower than 4 on this list. There is nothing that CP3 doesn’t do well. He averaged 18 points and 9 assists this year, along with 2 steals and 5 rebounds a game this year. Paul shoots for a good average as well, with a 47/41/89 shooting % split. And CP3’s best attribute? His ability to lead a team. Most criticize his lack of playoff success; I value his ability to carry bad New Orleans and overrated Clippers teams so much more.
5.) Damian Lillard
Damian Lillard is by far the most underrated superstar in the NBA. He edges out Kyrie Irving and Isiah Thomas to round out Top 5 points guards because since his entrance into the league, he has dominated and delivered. Dame averaged 27 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists last year, and carried the Blazers to the playoffs again. If not for 3 other incredible point guards in the West, Lillard would be an annual All-Star selection, and maybe not so slept on by the rest of the league.
