I am going to give you a few players and their stat lines, and think to yourself who the best player is:
Player A: 27ppg 4.9rpg 5.9assists.
Player B: 25.2ppg 3.2rpg 5.8 assists.
Player C: 22.4ppg 4.8rpg 7assists.
If you have two eyes you can see that Player A is the best player. Player A is Damian Lillard, Player B is Kyrie Irving and Player C is Kyle Lowry.
Kyrie Irving was a starter in the All-Star game and Kyle Lowry was a backup All-Star, but Damian Lillard was not. When you think of the best point guards in the league you probably think Westbrook, Curry, Wall, Paul, Kyrie etc, but always forget about Lillard.
Damian Lillard has lead the Trail Blazers to the playoffs every year since 2014. Lillard has always been one of the clutches players in the league. He constantly hits game winners, but for some reason he didn't make the all star game. Lillard has always been doubted in his career. Lillard was a two-star recruit in high school, and Weber State was the only college to give Lillard a scholarship. Lillard was magical at Weber State, entered the draft and was picked 6th. Lillard was the rookie of the year and many people thought Lillard would be a future MVP candidate. Lillard has put up elite point guard numbers, but very rarely gets brought up when mentioning the leagues top point guards.
I believe that Lillard doesn't get the credit he deserves is because he doesn't have a skill that makes him unique. People look at Kyrie's ball handling and are left in awe. They look at Steph's shooting and Russ's aggressiveness. Lillard has only quietly dropped incredible stats on a middle of the pack team, so his play gets overlooked. Next year the fans should make it their duty to make sure to vote Lillard into the All-Star game.
