The New York Knicks basketball season has been detrimental to everybody. However, this stressful season is reported to be the reason why Carmelo Anthony and LaLa Anthony is separated according to TMZ Sports.
LaLa has moved into her place in New York, according to TMZ. She and Carmelo Anthony has a son (Kiyan) that’s ten years old.
While the source is waiting to be confirmed, it was reported Melo and LaLa had issues with their relationship in the past. However, this season was the last straw.
Melo has been dealing with a lot of trade rumors this current season. Melo changing teams in the summer would cause his family to move to a different location. There’s a possibility that LaLa didn’t want him to make that decision.
Anthony has been a part of New York for six years. One of the main reason why he chose New York was because of his endorsements and LaLa. His supposed ex-wife have a lot of business/ tv show in New York.
Anthony signed his five-year deal with a no-trade clause because of it was what’s best for his family. Melo could have signed with the Chicago Bulls or the Houston Rockets but him staying in New York was about his wife and kids. During that time in 2014, Melo chose to stay with the Knicks because of his family. Melo talked to CBS Reporter in June 2014 about his decision.
“The average person just sees the opportunity to say, ‘Melo should go here, Melo should go there,’ ” Anthony said in a video interview with VICE Sports. “But they don’t take into consideration the family aspect of it, your livelihood, where you’re going to be living. Do you want your kids to grow up in that place? Do I want to spend the rest of my career in that situation, in that city?”
Earlier in the season, Melo told Marc Berman of New York Post that he would be “torn” if he waives his no-trade clause for the Boston Celtics or Los Angeles Clippers because of his son.
This team season was possibly an all time low for Melo. The Knicks went 31-51, and the president is blaming him for the majority of the problems this season. He was clowned by his president and was booed by his fans. Prez Phil Jackson started the season by telling CBS reporters that Melo will be better if he didn’t hold the ball too long.
Then, Jackson made a subliminal tweet towards Melo about you cannot change the spots on the leopard referring to Melos’ game.
Lastly, Jackson made an exit interview all about Melo. Jackson told the reporters hat it was best if Melo was not on the team next season.
“We have not been able to win with him on the court at this time, and I think the direction of our team is that he is a player that would be better off somewhere else and using his talent somewhere he can win or chase that championship,” Jackson said.
Carmelo Anthony season has taken a toll on not just him but his entire family. If this report is accurate than Melo shouldn’t have an excuse on which team who he should go to in the offseason. Anthony told Marc Berman that moving to Manhattan was easier for LaLa in January.
“Anthony said he hadn’t told the Knicks anything of the sort. Anthony moved to Manhattan to make it easier for his actress wife, La La,” said Berman.
