Former UFC Lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos is scheduled to fight Tarec Saffiedine, on June 17 at Fight Night 111.
Dos Anjos last fought in November of 2016, where he lost via unanimous decision to current lightweight number one contender Tony Ferguson. Before the loss, Dos Anjos had lost his belt in July, 2016 to former champion Eddie Alvarez.
Dos Anjos had been on an impressive five fight win streak, where he beat people such as Nate Diaz, Benson Henderson, Anthony Pettis, and Donald Cerrone.
Recently, Dos Anjos began talking about a move up to welterweight, since the weight cut to lightweight was very taxing on his body.
Fans speculated that he would rematch Donald Cerrone at welterweight, because before Cerrone fought at welterweight he lost to Dos Anjos via first round TKO.
However, Dos Anjos and the UFC had other plans in mind, as the Brazilian is now set to Tarec Saffiedine, who is currently on a two fight losing streak, having been beaten by Rick Story and Dong Hyun Kim.
The fighters are evenly matched size wise, with both of them being 5’9” and having a 70” reach. However Dos Anjos has much more experience, and has fought opponents with a much higher level of skill than Saffiedine.
The fight will be for free on Fox Sports 1, June 17. The event is taking place in Singapore.
