The lackluster trade deadline ended the last Thursday. The most watch team heading into the trade deadline week was the Boston Celtics. Boston could have gotten any pick they wanted last week. Boston did not make any moves.
Boston fans were not happy that their team didn’t make any trades. They were expecting to sign a big time star to help compete against the Cleveland Cavaliers. There were a few stars in mind. The Celtics were in talks with Jimmy Butler and Paul George.
One eastern conference team was nervous the whole trade deadline week. The Cleveland Cavaliers was jumping for joy when Boston did not make any moves.
ESPN’s Brian Windhorst enlighten us on how Cleveland was “nervous” about Boston getting a star. Windhorst made an appearance on Zach Lowe podcast “The Lowe Post.”
Brian Windhorst said,
“The Cavaliers were on pins and needles about the Celtics getting Paul George or Jimmy Butler.”.
Windhorst said if Boston made the trade than the Cavaliers would’ve made a big trade.
If it did happen, the Cavaliers probably would have called the New York Knicks about reconstructing the Carmelo Anthony trade. The Cavaliers and New York was in trade talks about Kevin Love for Melo. Tyron Lue shut the trade rumor down by saying, “Love going nowhere.” LeBron James shut the rumors down James said: “It’s trash and the guy who wrote it is trash, too, for writing that.”
“If it’s Isaiah Thomas, Al Horford, and Jimmy Butler, the Cavs might be out there saying, ‘We might have to trade Kevin Love,’” Windhorst said
The eastern conference could’ve has been rejuvenated if Boston would have made a move. Either way, it goes, Cleveland bench is about to be one of the best benches in the NBA if they execute.
Cleveland is about to sign Deron Williams and Andrew Bogut on Monday. Andrew Bogut is a good rim protector that Cleveland has needed since Timofey Mozgov departed. Bogut was a part of the Golden State Warriors championship team. Deron Williams will be a bench player for the Cavaliers, but he is the playmaker LeBron James have been asking for. Williams was former teammates with Kyle Korver. They played on the Utah Jazz team (2007-10). The Cleveland Cavaliers bench is ranked 28th in PPG.
Boston will face Cleveland on March 1.
