According to Adrian Wojnarowski and @TheVertical, the Chicago Bulls are still in extensive talks with the Philadelphia 76ers about trading for big man Jahlil Okafor.
Okafor, a Chicago native, has been in the trade talk a lot recently due to the strong play of his counterpart, C Joel Embiid. While the 76ers plan to build around Embiid and keep C Nerlens Noel for his defensive presence, it seems that Okafor will be the odd man out in Philadelphia.
While only averaging 11 points and 4 rebounds this season, Okafor has not had a chance to show his true potential this year. Besides Embiid being deemed the team’s future, Okafor’s style back to the basket style of play does not mesh with the 76ers up and down tempo. However, he is a skilled offensive player with a tremendous amount of upside.
The Chicago Bulls have made it clear that they do not plan to go into full rebuild mode and trade All-Star Jimmy Butler, but will attempt to build around him. Right now, the Bulls have an older front court in Robin Lopez and Taj Gibson, and will probably not be apart of the teams future. The Bulls have been a slower paced team for a while now, and Okafor may be able to thrive in that offense.
It is still unclear what the 76ers are looking for in return for Okafor, they are in need of unloading him. It will be interesting to see if the Bulls are able to put package of players and picks together to bring the big man back to his hometown.
