The race for Philadelphia 76ers center Jahlil Okafor, just got a little more crowded as it now appears as if the Indiana Pacers have shown interest in the second-year big man.
Per ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne–
Indiana seems to be one of the more active teams right now as they try to get Paul George some help. One name Jeff Goodman, Chris Haynes and I have all heard they’re pursuing: Jahlil Okafor.
The Pacers have been long searching for a way to bolster their roster, in an effort to build a contending team centered around Paul George. Some reports even suggest that they’d be willing to part with a first round draft pick to accomplish this task.
However, news of the Pacers pursuing a big-man with Okafor’s skill set does come as a bit of a shock. Indiana currently houses another sophomore big man on their roster: Myles Turner, who has thrived as the Pacers starting center. That alone should represent a slight conflict, as Okafor has shown that he’s not a natural four. It would also be difficult to play Okafor off the bench considering they already have Al Jefferson doing just that (a player who many believe posses nearly the same exact abilities as Okafor).
