What a start to a potentially crazy ending.
It was reported late Sunday night that All-Star C DeMarcus Cousins has been traded from the Sacramento Kings to the New Orleans Pelicans in exchange for G Buddy Hield, G Tyreke Evans and future picks. This pairs Boogie up with F Anthony Davis, making the most formidable front-court in the NBA. With the Pelicans only 2.5 games out of the 8th seed in the Western Conference, the Pelicans seem destined for a playoff run.
Less than a week ago, the Kings and Cousins publicly stated that the plan was for Cousins to stay in Sacramento long-term. However, just three days before the trade deadline, they made what seems to be the biggest move in the NBA this year. Everyone is now left wondering the same question; what is in store for the last 3 days before the deadline date?
A couple other big names have been thrown around this season about possibly being traded, including stars Jimmy Butler and Carmelo Anthony. While each the Bulls and Knicks have had lackluster seasons based on their off-season acquisitions, and have left them stranded on the verge of rebuilding. It does seem that neither Melo or Butler will be on the move, but we didn’t think Boogie had any chance of being traded either.
Other players that have been in trade talks have included Jahlil Okafor, Lou Williams, and Wilson Chandler. Okafor has no clear high-bidder, but it doesn’t make much sense for him to stay in Philly with Joel Embiid being the franchise centerpiece for the foreseeable future. Williams has been linked to the upstart Wizards, while Chandler is being pursued by the Clippers and the Thunder.
With only 3 day left until the NBA Trade Deadline, and so many teams transitioning to contenders as of recent, there is no telling how wild the rest of trade season will be.
