Sacramento Kings fans appear to be feeling a bit torn this all-star weekend as trade rumors swirl around their team, while the Pelicans fans are having a great time listening the rumors surrounding theirs. According to the Vertical, the Kings is exploring trade options for DeMarcus Cousins.
Sources have reportedly told Adrian Wojnarowski that, “Sacramento is still debating on his future internally.”
Sources told Mike Scotto of Basketball Insiders that the Kings had discussed trading Demarcus Cousins for Buddy Hield and multiple Pelicans first round picks.
If I were Pelicans, I would make it happen ASAP. Having Cousins and Anthony Davis in the front court would be athletic and dominant frontcourt. The Pelicans could potentially secure the eighth seed in the Western Conference standing, which would potentially spell trouble for the Warriors (assuming of course, that Warriors secure the top seed). There’s no doubt that Davis needs help in New Orleans and Cousins can be the key to for a NOLA playoff push.
The Pelicans have been aggressive elsewhere today too. The Kings are not the only team they’ve been trying to make moves with. League sources told Justin Verrier of ESPN ,that the Pelicans called in about Paul George after calling the Kings about DeMarcus Cousins.
On Friday, DeMarcus Cousins spoke with the media and told them that he wants to stay in Sacramento long-term. He went on to say that this is the best team he’s played on in Sactown. He even went as far as to say that he want his jersey to be hung in the rafters of stadium. He appeared to feel optimistic about his future as a King.
Anthony Davis spoke up about him staying loyal to the Pelicans. Now, the Pelicans front office have to do something to keep their star happy. Davis is the only one on his team that had an all-star appearance.
Trade deadline is next Thursday, February 23rd.
