After nine seasons in Europe, Gabonese center Stephane Lasme returns to the United States in order to join NBA D-League’s club Texas Legends. The affiliate team of the Dallas Mavericks informed officially about their deal with the 35-year-old player earlier in the day.
University of Massachusetts graduate, who was selected in the second round, 46th overall, in the 2007 NBA draft by the Golden State Warriors, was inactive since last August after being found positive on banned substances, but now he’s allowed to play again. The punishment had an 1-year length, but Lasme’s side made an appeal to FIBA and it was finally decreased.
Lasme won the EuroCup championship in April 2016 with Turkish powerhouse Galatasaray, being also the Finals MVP with 11.5 points, 9 boards and 2.5 blocks per game. During his remarkable European career, the veteran big man celebrated two national league titles in Greece with Panathinaikos Superfoods, while he was named the EuroLeague Best Defender for the 2012–13 season.
