There are a lot of things happening right now in the city that never sleeps; specifically with the New York Knicks team. And there’s only one way to describe it: a horrible mess.
Ever since Phil Jackson accepted the job as the Knicks executive in 2014, there has been a lot of questions about how he has handled things lately. His ability to make decisions has not been a good one, as he has done a lot of things that not everyone has been happy about. For example, you can take trading Iman Shumpert and J.R. Smith to the Cleveland Cavaliers; signing Derek Fisher and Jeff Hornacek as head coaches, signing Courtney Lee and Joakim Noah to contracts that are a little too much for them…and the list goes on and on.
But this does not stop here, as we know now that there is an eternal battle between Jackson and New York Knicks small forward, Carmelo Anthony.
This started a couple months ago when Jackson stated that “Anthony holds the ball too much”. Melo did not like his comments, but sticked to playing basketball and help his team win. What happened? The Knicks suddenly started to suck. They started to lose games they shouldn’t had lost. They started to look lost in the court. And even the fans started booing Carmelo Anthony everytime they thought he was making a bad decision with the ball.
And if this isn’t enough, on the last Knicks game, New York former forward, Charles Oakley, was thrown out of the game by security and numerous things have been said of the incident. The Knicks state that Oakley was behaving in an abusive way, while Oakley blames Knicks owner James Dolan for what happened.
So, what is really happening?
The Big Apple is now on its way to be The Rotten Apple, as things are not looking pretty at all for the New York Knicks. Former Indiana Pacers star, Reggie Miller, had something pretty valuable to say about the Knicks current situation:
If you're a FA to be, why would you play for an Owner who treats the past greats like this or a President who stabs star player in the back?
— Reggie Miller (@ReggieMillerTNT) February 9, 2017
Miller could not be more right. Free agency is filled with great potential this summer, and if you’re a player looking for a new home, you certainly will not want to end in a place where they want to literally RUN YOU OUT OF TOWN! What Jackson is doing to the franchise is really hurting them as a whole. We all know Melo’s desire to stay in New York, but if Jackson does not go first, I think the smart thing to do, for Carmelo and his family, is to get out to another team.
Everybody is frustrated. Melo is frustrated. Knicks fans are frustrated. Even former players are frustrated. And they have every right to be. Because you got a guy who is literally, sinking down the ship. So, a decision has to be made before it’s too late. There is still hope for this franchise. Spike Lee stated that he will “pack Phil’s bags for him” as he still “believes in Carmelo Anthony”. It only is a matter of time. But the apple is rotting. And this needs to get fixed.
