Despite earlier reports that the Cavs basically laughed at the idea of trading Kevin Love for Carmelo Anthony, Frank Isola has found out that Lebron James is pushing for the deal. According to Isola’s report it wouldn’t matter to Lebron if Love is included in the deal but he wants Anthony.

Kevin Love seems to have finally gotten comfortable with the Cavs this year as he is averaging 20 points and 11 boards. That and the fact that Kevin Love is four years younger than Anthony is a major reason why the Cavaliers want to keep Love out of any potential deals. However, Lebron may have different ideas.
Lebron has known Carmelo since his High School days and has admitted to wanting to play with him, and his other all star friends in the past. That relationship may be why James may want this deal to work with or without Love. Since Love’s arrival in Cleveland there has always been rumors about the dislike between James and Love. In Carmelo Lebron has a trust that extends all the way back to their High School days. That trust may be irrational because of Carmelo’s age and because he’s on the backside of his career. Carmelo would be a huge pick-up as he is a nine time All-Star who is still good on the offensive end but is widely viewed as a one way player.
A straight up deal for Carmelo wouldn’t make sense for the Cavs, but if they could get him some other way it would be a great deal. The team of Kyrie, Lebron, Melo, and Love against Curry, Thompson, Durant, and Green is something to dream of but without sending Love to New York the deal is not likely to happen. According to Rachel Nichols, it was never likely to begin with.

I still wouldn’t be surprised if somehow the teams made the deal work. The Knicks look eager to move Melo before the deadline and start the rebuilding process and the Cavs would presumably be happy to have him.
