Look, I’ll be totally honest. I’m not a huge baseball guy. I’d much rather watch football, or basketball any given day. I just feel like there’s too many games in a single baseball season, and sometimes all for nothing. I mean teams like the Pirates, and Yankees, both wild card teams this season, had good seasons, but lost in their wild card games. So in a way it was like 162 games all for almost nothing. Not only that, but nine innings drags on way too long, and I know I’m not the only one who thinks this. To keep going, I’m a Red Sox fan, so watching baseball this season hasn’t really been the funnest thing imaginable. However, in this years postseason there is one team in particular I’m especially rooting for, and they’re one you should be rooting for too. I’m of course talking about the Chicago Cubs.
Think about it, when was the last time you saw the Chicago Cubs win the World Series? Yeah, that’s what I thought. Never. You’ve never seen the Cubs win a World Series, and neither have I. It’s been 107 years since the Chicago Cubs won a championship, and I really want this year to be the year it happens. I mean imagine all the poor Cubbie fans who’ve never seen their team win 1 single world series, and some who might not ever see them win one during their lifetime… it’s a sad thought really.
Take a look at the final four remaining post season teams. American League, Kanas City Royals, and Toronto Blue Jays. You wanna root for the Royals? Sure they haven’t won in a while either, but they had their opportunity last season, got to the World Series, and blew it. And are you really gonna root for a Canadian team? What kind of American are you? Swing over to the National League, and it’s the New York Mets, and the CHICAGO CUBS. Mets, psh booooooring. Another team that hasn’t tasted success in a while, actually, come to think of it, all four of these teams haven’t had success in a while. Kansas City may have made it to the final dance last season, but they still came up short, and before that they hadn’t made the post season in over twenty years. Toronto’s shown signs of improvement over the past couple of seasons, but this is their first playoff appearance in 22 years, the longest playoff drought in baseball. The Mets are still the Mets, and they haven’t won a World Series since 1986. And you already know about the Cubs lack of winning over the past century. So yeah, four teams who haven’t tasted glory in a long, long time.
However, I think this is it. Theo Epstein, and the Cubs organization built a team to remember, and what a better way to remember it than with a World Series. Epstein was the GM during 2004, when the Boston Red Sox broke their 87 year World Series drought, and I get the same vibe that something as magical as that’s going to happen in Chi-town this year. Witnessing a Cubs World Series would be witnessing all the more history, and that’s something you can’t really get every year.
So to end this quick little article off, I’ll give one final set of predictions, and hopefully sprinkle a bit of AB magic on the Chicago Cubs. My prediction, Cubs beat the Mets 4-2 in the ALCS series, and then go on to beat the Toronto Blue Jays, 4-3, and win their first World Series in over 100 years.
I mean, come on, how can you not root for the Chicago Cubs?
