The San Antonio Spurs are unarguably the top winners of the 2015 NBA Offseason, signing the top free agent LaMarcus Aldridge. Aldridge dominated in Portland in and outside of the paint and was clearly the star of the team. Teaming him up with veteran and 4 Time NBA Champion Tim Duncan is just plain incredible. The Spurs managed to grab the all-star Aldridge after giving 2014 Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard and sharp shooting Danny Green contracts first, locking up their young talent for multiple years showing Aldridge that they’ll still have Talent when Duncan retires. Also the Spurs were able to sign veteran forward David West to a minimum contract. Stacking the team even more. Ginobili and Matt Bonner announced via Twitter that they were returning for another season as well!
Next up is the Los Angeles Clippers. First move the Clippers made that created some buzz was trading for Lance Stevenson, who was ready to get out of Charlotte where he struggled terribly but many including myself believe that he will be successful in Los Angeles and fit in Doc Rivers system. The next move they did was convince ” The Truth” Paul Pierce to come play for an already stacked Clippers team! Pierce couldn’t turn down a loaded team and a chance to play with his old coach again! The Clippers thought they lost their Star big man Deandre Jordan after agreeing to terms with the Mavericks but Jordan had a change of heart and decided to stay in LA. The Clippers also was able to sign Josh Smith to the veteran minimum which is a great pick up, making the Clippers even deeper. Very excited to see them compete in the playoffs this upcoming season
The Miami Heat has been the clear winners of the Eastern Conference this offseason! To begin with the great moves they have made, they had the 10th pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. The 2015 Draft Class has major talent but Miami was able to draft Justice Winslow out of Duke! Winslow averaged 12.6 points, 6.5 boards and 1.3 steals in 29 minutes on a deep Duke National Championship team. During the tournament he averaged 14.3 points and 9.3 boards helping fellow team mates Jahlil Okafor, Tyus Jones and Quinn Cook to win the championship. Justice was a great draft pick steal for Miami. The Heat also locked up superstar Dwayne Wade and starting PG Goran Dragic. To add to the already talented team, they have signed respected NBA veteran Amare Stoudemire and slam dunking machine Gerald Green! Both to come off the bench and do damage, The Miami Heat are now clear contenders in the Eastern Conference easily. They have set their roster to match up with Cleveland and Chicago ( The two top teams in the East) now im not saying the Heat are going to the finals but they are respectively going to cause trouble for the other hungry East teams. Get ready folks this is a brand new Heat team!
The next team up is very young and on the rise in their conference. The Milwaukee Bucks have had a great offseason. First the Bucks managed to resign Khris Middleton, locking him up to a five-year, 70 million dollar deal. Middleton averaged a career high 13.4 points along with 4.4 rebounds last season with Milwaukee. Also the Bucks signed Greg Monroe to a three-year 50 million dollar deal. Adding Greg Monroe to this team was perfect, due to the fact that the Bucks had every position filled but a true center. Monroe averaged 15.9 points and 10.2 rebounds last season with Detroit, putting up consistent double doubles. With Michael Carter-Williams, Jabari Parker and Greg Monroe the Bucks will soon be a dynamic big three in the weak Eastern Conference.
The last big winner of the offseason may surprise you, but you can not sit here and say that they didn’t improve. The Dallas Mavericks showed so much dedication from the start of the free agent drama all the way until everything calmed down. The first power move the Mavericks made was signing sharp shooting scorer Wesley Matthews, after the Trailblazers didn’t offer him a contract he kindly accepted the Mavericks offer. Matthews will fill the spot of Monta Ellis, who signed with the Indiana Pacers. In Portland last season Matthews averaged 16.1 points and most of his points came from behind the 3 point line. Also after being back stabbed by Deandre Jordan, the Mavericks signed Samuel Dalembert and JaVale McGee both decent players to spilt time at the Center position that they were weak in after losing Tyson Chandler in the offseason. The most interesting move the Dallas Mavericks made was signing Deron Williams after he reached a buyout with the Nets. There’s really nothing impressive to say about Williams at the moment but that he’s ready to get back to his old self and it seems like this team is ready to help him on the way.
There are many other teams that made great moves in the offseason as like the Houston Rockets, who lost in the Western Conference finals 4-1 to the Warriors. They’ve added Ty Lawson a fantastic point guard and one of James Hardens closest friends throughout the league. Lawson going in to Houston looks to create a consistent big 3 of him , Harden and Dwight Howard this was such a great add due to the fact that the Rockets still have Patrick Beverly. So adding Lawson is also adding more talented depth to their roster. Another team is the Cleveland Cavaliers simply because they were the front runners of the NBA finals last season, they’ve locked up all their free agents including the king Lebron James. Multiple teams have locked up decent players to add to their team and in this offseason we will see some heartbreaking roster cuts as every team can only have a 15 man roster as soon as the season starts. The 2015 was such a success to so many team like the Timberwolves, Lakers and 76ers that they didn’t freak out on not signing big names in this offseason. They believe in their rookies and their roster so this upcoming season will be very interesting and I personally can not wait!
