10 for 10. Perfect.
Sam Bradford could not have played any better in the “dress rehearsal” game against the Green Bay Packers. He was making quick decisions, accurate throws, had great poise, and the accuracy and arm strength that warranted the number one selection back in 2010. This was the best a Chip Kelly offense has looked since week 16 against Chicago two seasons ago. Bradford threw three touchdown passes to three different receivers. The most impressive was on fourth and goal. Bradford had a free rusher in his face, and delivered the ball to tight end Trey Burton. It was an encouraging sign to see him be willing to take the hit. After this game, I kept hearing the magic words on the radio airwaves of Philadelphia. Super Bowl.
There is one word that best describes Philly sports fans. No, the word is not snow. I am convinced that no matter how much time goes by, the Santa Claus incident from 1968 will keep haunting Philadelphia. But I digress. The word I would choose to describe Philly sports fans is passionate. Now the word might change if you asked a Dallas fan to describe a Philly fan, but this is what I will go with. This is a fan base that has had their hearts broken time and time again. I can still see Ronde Barber running back an interception, untouched on his way to the end zone. A game in which the Eagles were favorites in the NFC title game, the last game at the Vet. I still have visions of Andy Reid, refusing to go no-huddle being down by 10 with two minutes to go in Super Bowl 39. Eagles fans have been through it all. For a franchise that hasn’t won a championship in 55 years, the word Super Bowl is not just thrown around. While listening to the Mike Missanelli show on 97.5 the Fanatic, Missanelli brought up the betting odds in Vegas. The Eagles odds went from 15 to 1 down to 10 to 1 after just one pre-season game that did not feature Aaron Rodgers. That puts the Eagles in fourth behind the Packers, Colts, and Seahawks. Now, there is a reason that there are big, fancy buildings out in the desert. These are smart people that know what they are doing. After hearing this and watching the games, Philly fans are getting amped up for the season. Bradford has the most talent of any quarterback Chip has had since coming to the NFL. If he can stay healthy for a whole season, you can’t discount them in the Super Bowl race. However, the Seahawks and Packers still rule the NFC until proven otherwise.
There is no doubting that the Eagles will have the highest rated fourth pre-season game in NFL history. Just the thought of Tim Tebow playing two quarters will get a bunch of football and non-football fans giddy to watch him. Now I will begin to list every reason Tebow has shown about why he should make the team. Oh yeah, he has yet to show anything. The one thing these Tebow supporters have been able to hang their hat on was “he can be a weapon on the two point conversion, that is why Chip got him.” Well he did absolutely nothing to prove that against Green Bay. He got stuffed at the goal line and nearly threw an interception on his two two point conversion chances. Also, Chip called him Tim and not Timmy during his press conference this week. Bad news for “Timmy.” If you think the excitement over the Eagles is big now, wait until the regular season.
